Microsoft Office 2012 (or Office 15) to get ‘Web Extensions’ for enhanced Third-party features With Office 15, Microsoft is going one step ahead to try and catch the pulse of the web and integrate it with its legacy product line. Microsoft has decided to allow ‘Agave’ web extensions by third party developers to be integrated into their upcoming Office suite.


Inclusion of ‘Agave’ web extensions into Office 15 or MS Office 2012 will allow for deeper web integration and also help creating an eco-system around upcoming Office 15. Developers will be able to build third-party ‘Agave’ extensions using technologies such as HTML5, CSS, JavaScript, and REST in order to create such web extensions.  So far, three types of ‘agaves’ have been detailed: Task Pane agave Content agave Contextual agave Task Pane Agave: It will allow Office 2012 users to see an extension parallell to the opened Office document, allowing users to look up information from a particular web service, without leaving the document in progress.  Content Agave: This is meant to embed webpages within the document in progress. This will be highly useful if and when someone is writing a research paper and wants to include citations from the web within the document.  Contextual Agave:  This is meant to help display parallel content from the web, alongside mail or calendar items.  All the web extensions for Office 2012 will be sold through exclusively built Office marketplace.  Microsoft Office 2012 Screenshots
